The future

Researchers are now working on injections that are effective for six months or longer, so that people only have to go to the hospital twice a year for their treatment.

Researchers are also investigating a treatment that enables people to suppress HIV themselves for longer periods of time without having to take daily medication. This could be achieved by strengthening the immune system and reducing the HIV reservoir. Regular check-ups at the hospital would still be necessary.

The ultimate goal is a cure. After one or more treatments, you would be HIV free.
